“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is now officially on the horizon, with the story likely set in the 1980s. Fans can look forward to the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Given the Warrens’ rich history of cases in the ’80s, including one that inspired “The Haunting in Connecticut,” the next film might explore less-known incidents to keep the series fresh. Hints of “The Conjuring 4” were teased in “The Nun II’s” post-credits scene, promising Ed and Lorraine Warren’s comeback.
James Wan, the mastermind behind the Conjuring universe, has confirmed the development of the fourth film, with New Line Cinema gearing up for production. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who penned the second and third films, is back as the writer, with Wan and Peter Safran co-producing.
In an intriguing turn, James Wan has suggested that “The Conjuring 4” could conclude the series, emphasizing the importance of delivering the Warrens’ story with the emotional depth and care it deserves. Though the saga’s cinematic chapter may close, a Conjuring TV series is reportedly in the works at HBO Max (now called Max), poised to pick up the narrative baton.
